Massive Fabrication for Metallurgical Plants
Steel mills, foundries, and smelting plants operate under some of the most punishing conditions on Earth. The equipment used in melt shops and rolling mills must withstand extreme continuous heat, massive thermal shocks, and brutal abrasive wear.
With 180 acres of manufacturing space, massive heat treatment furnaces, and 250-ton lifting capacities, Openex is purpose-built to fabricate and machine the colossal, thick-walled weldments required by the metallurgical industry. We build critical equipment for Basic Oxygen Furnaces (BOF), Electric Arc Furnaces (EAF), and continuous casting facilities globally.
Equipment Built for Steel Mills & Foundries
We work directly from OEM and plant engineer blueprints to fabricate massive, fully integrated metallurgical equipment.
Melt Shop Equipment
We utilize heavy-plate heat-resistant steels to fabricate components exposed to molten metal and direct flame.
- âś“ Scrap Charge Buckets (Clamshell)
- âś“ Teeming & Transfer Ladles
- âś“ Tundish Cars & Frames
- âś“ Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) Shells
Rolling Mill Components
Our heavy 5-axis CNC machining centers provide the exact tolerances needed for heavy structural and rotational loads.
- âś“ Rolling Mill Stands & Housings
- âś“ Heavy Gearbox Housings
- âś“ Work Roll Chocks
- âś“ Billet & Slab Cooling Beds
Heavy Material Handling & Process Ductwork
Handling bulk raw materials like slag, iron ore, and coal destroys standard equipment quickly. We heavily process AR400/500 Hardox wear-plates for extreme-duty hoppers, skip cars, slag pots, and heavy transfer carts.
We also fabricate the massive, large-diameter industrial ductwork, water-cooled duct sections, and baghouse components required to handle the intense exhaust gases expelled during smelting.
Crucial Capabilities for the Steel Industry
| Manufacturing Advantage | Why it matters for Steel Mills |
|---|---|
| Thermal Stress Relief (PWHT) | Furnace parts must not warp when introduced to 3000°F environments. Our massive on-site heat treatment ovens stabilize huge weldments prior to machining and delivery. |
| Heavy Lifting & Factory Space | Melt shop assemblies are massive. With 180 acres of space and 250T lifting cranes, we fully assemble and fit-test structures (like ladles on transfer cars) indoors. |
| Heavy Plate Submerged Arc Welding | Ladles holding hundreds of tons of molten steel cannot fail. We use highly controlled, 100% UT-tested SAW (Submerged Arc Welding) for flawless deep penetration joints. |
