Large Yankee Dryer Project

Success Story: Pulp & Paper Industry

Large Yankee Dryer Fabrication for Japanese Market

Openex Large Metal Fab has successfully manufactured and exported a massive Tissue Machine Yankee Dryer to Japan. Commissioned by a global leading supplier of paper machinery, this drying cylinder serves as the core equipment in the papermaking drying section. Its operational stability and precise roundness directly dictate the mill's production efficiency and final tissue quality.

Stringent Dual-Standard Compliance

At an impressive 6.2 meters in length and over 5.6 meters in diameter, manufacturing a pressure vessel of this magnitude required meticulous QA planning. Not only did the mechanical design dictate strict compliance with international ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Codes, but the end-user location required meeting Japan’s MHLW (Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare) regulations.

The MHLW maintains notoriously harsh requirements for final surface finish, cosmetic appearance, and food/hygiene-grade material compliance. Through continuous, collaborative coordination between our Technical Division, Quality Assurance team, shop-floor operators, and third-party inspectors, Openex finalized a flawlessly integrated Manufacturing and QC Execution Plan that married both global standards seamlessly.

The Challenge: Operational Precision

Because a Yankee Dryer operates continuously under significant rotational speed, intense steam pressure, and fluctuating temperatures, ensuring absolute cylinder roundness and dynamic balance was the core manufacturing challenge. Any deviation would cause vibration, leading to bearing failures and ripped paper webs at speeds exceeding thousands of meters per minute.

To conquer this, Openex deployed industry-leading deep machining techniques supported by meticulous stress-relief protocols, a complete heavy logistics plan, and state-of-the-art heavy CNC turning. The customer gave exceptionally high praise regarding both product quality and delivery logistics upon completion.
