Heavy Plate Rolling

Perfect Cylindricity. Colossal Tonnage.

Industrial Steel Plate Rolling Specialists

Producing high-integrity cylinders, transition cones, and massive tubulars requires rolling machinery capable of producing millions of pounds of downward force without deflecting. A slight machine deflection results in warped parts, out-of-tolerance weld gaps, and failed structural assemblies.

Openex operates an elite plate rolling facility designed specifically for heavy industry. By utilizing world-class heavy-duty CNC 3-roll and 4-roll bending machines, we effectively control material spring-back on extreme thicknesses. Our integrated pre-bending capabilities minimize flat spots at the plate edges, guaranteeing perfectly uniform radiuses that require less fit-up time for our welders.

Rolling Capabilities in Action

Heavy Metal Plate Rolling of large cylinders

Heavy Cylinder Rolling

From large boiler shells to massive rotary kilns and wind tower monopiles, our machines smoothly contour huge steel blanks into perfect cylinders. CNC controls precisely manage variable speed and pressure to prevent material stretching or tearing.

  • Capable of processing plates up to 5,000mm in width.
  • Automated Edge Pre-Bending minimizes flat spots.
  • Critical for flawless Submerged Arc Welding fit-up.

Concentric & Eccentric Cones

Rolling conical shapes introduces immense friction and asymmetrical forces onto the machine rolls. We use highly calibrated cone rolling attachments to manufacture structural transitions, silo bottoms, and fluid reduction sections accurately without dragging or scarring the metal plate.

Cold vs. Hot Plate Rolling

For thicknesses surpassing our standard 150mm cold-roll threshold (or when forming exotic alloys highly susceptible to strain cracking), Openex shifts to Hot Rolling. We heat massive plates inside atmospheric furnaces until the metal yields, securely forming thicknesses extending up to 250mm while avoiding crystalline fatigue.

Rolling & Shell Tonnage Specifications

Tolerances and maximum material thicknesses fluctuate heavily based on the grade's Tensile Yield Strength. Always verify with our engineers regarding extreme structural builds.
