World-Class Large Part Machining
When manufacturing massive industrial components, extreme precision cannot be compromised by massive scale. Machining a 100-ton forging or a heavy welded frame requires incredibly rigid machine tools to absorb vibration, eliminate tool chatter, and maintain tight dimensional tolerances.
Openex operates one of the most comprehensive climate-controlled heavy machining centers in the world. Equipped with multi-axis gantry mills, large-scale horizontal boring mills (HBMs), and giant vertical turning lathes (VTLs), we easily handle workpieces reaching 25 meters in length and weighing up to 250 tons.
Our Core Machining Expertise
5-Axis Large Gantry Milling
Our heavy-duty 5-axis bridge and gantry milling centers allow us to machine complex geometries on oversized parts in a single setup. This significantly reduces cycle times and setup errors on products like marine engine blocks, aerospace molds, and giant machine beds.
Large Horizontal Boring (HBM)
Utilizing heavy floor-type horizontal boring mills equipped with long-reach spindles, we perform ultra-precise deep hole boring, facing, and milling. This is essential for manufacturing pump housings, turbine casings, and large hydraulic cylinders.
Vertical Turning Lathes (VTL)
Our heavy VTLs effortlessly handle the extreme rotating mass of large circular parts. Capable of turning components up to 8 meters in diameter, we regularly produce large custom flanges, gear blanks, slewing rings, and massive tube sheets.
Maximum Equipment Capabilities
We heavily invest in European, Japanese, and domestic machine tools to ensure maximum capability. Below are our facility limitations for large part machining:
| Machining Profile | Dimensional Envelope & Weight Limit |
|---|---|
| Gantry CNC Milling | L: Up to 25,000 mm | W: 6,000 mm | H: 5,000 mm Weight: Up to 250 Tons |
| Floor Type Boring | X-Axis: 18,000 mm | Y-Axis: 5,000 mm Weight: Up to 150 Tons |
| Vertical Turning (VTL) | Maximum Turn Diameter: Ø 8,000 mm | Turning Height: 4,000 mm Weight: Up to 100 Tons |
| Precision Tolerances | Tolerances held as tight as ±0.01 mm to ±0.05 mm, highly dependent on total part volume, geometry, and material state. |
📐 Large Volume Metrology
Machining a part correctly is only half the battle; proving the dimensions mathematically is what OEM engineers demand. We back all of our heavy machining with large-scale Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM) and advanced Laser Tracker systems to capture massive spatial profiles to extreme sub-millimeter accuracies in temperature-controlled inspection labs.
