Openex maintains huge climate-controlled paint and drying booths inside our 180-acre facility. Designed to easily house multi-story structures and payloads up to 250 tons, our industrial finishing department applies multi-layer, marine-grade protective systems ensuring decades of reliable asset lifespans.
The Finishing Process
1 Abrasive Blasting & Profiling
Industrial coatings instantly delaminate if applied over welding scale, oils, or oxides. We process massive weldments through our massive enclosed grit blasting recovery vaults. We expertly blast the steel to strict cleanliness specs (e.g., SSPC-SP 10 / Near-White Metal Blast / SA 2.5), generating the perfect microscopic profile (surface roughness) for permanent paint adhesion.
2 Advanced Airless Application
Once prepped, parts are immediately moved to a clean, moisture-controlled bay. Using industrial high-pressure airless and electrostatic spray equipment, we precisely apply heavy zinc-rich epoxy primers, robust mastic build coats, and high-gloss polyurethane or enamel topcoats customized perfectly to the harsh environments specified by your engineering team.
3 Accelerated & Controlled Curing
Heavy paints require very strict environmental boundaries to cure correctly without sagging, trapping solvents, or chalking. Because our huge paint enclosures feature computerized humidity and heating regulators, we control temperature ranges flawlessly across massive surfaces during drying to accelerate cross-linking and slash turnaround times safely.
Strict Coating QA & Measurements
Our painting quality is audited intensely. Inadequate paint application leaves weak points ("holidays") on an asset. At Openex, on-staff NACE inspectors closely log environmental profiles prior to spray, document exactly what multi-coat system goes down, and then physically measure performance utilizing rigorous global codes.
