Large Steel Housings

Massive Scale & Structural Integrity

Custom Fabrication of Heavy Steel Casings

Large-scale infrastructure and industrial equipment require massive protective housings that can withstand extreme underground pressures, environmental corrosion, and heavy operational loads.

Openex specializes in the heavy plate rolling, welding, and machining of large steel housings and casings. We routinely manufacture massive components such as Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) shields, deep foundation caissons, turbine housings, pump casings, and underground structural shafts. With 250-ton lifting capacities and some of the world's largest CNC boring mills, we deliver fully assembled, precision-machined housings directly to your job site.

Housing & Casing Manufacturing Specifications

We build to your exact blueprints, whether you need a single massive TBM shield or high-volume foundation casings. Below are our general facility capacities:

Maximum Diameter (Rolled) Up to 12,000 mm (12 Meters) and beyond in sections
Maximum Plate Thickness Up to 200 mm (Cold/Hot Rolling dependent on material)
Common Materials Carbon Steel (Q345, A36, S355), Wear-Resistant Steel (Hardox), High-Strength Low-Alloy (HSLA).
Machining Tolerances Precision boring and flange facing for massive mating surfaces, down to ±0.05 mm on large diameters.
Testing & NDT 100% Ultrasonic Testing (UT) & Radiographic Testing (RT) on critical full-penetration welds.

The Manufacturing Process

1
Heavy Plate Forming & Rolling

Using our massive multi-roll plate bending machines, we cold or hot roll thick steel plates into perfectly cylindrical or conical casings, ensuring minimal material distortion.

2
Submerged Arc Welding (SAW) & Assembly

Sections are joined using automated SAW column and boom manipulators. This guarantees deep penetration, defect-free welds necessary to withstand immense environmental pressures.

3
Thermal Stress Relief & CNC Machining

Post-weld, massive housings are placed into our on-site heat treatment furnaces. Once stabilized, our floor-type boring mills machine the mating flanges and critical mounting points.

4
Industrial Coating & Painting

Housings bound for underground or subsea environments are moved to our state-of-the-art blasting booths and coated with heavy-duty epoxies to ensure decades of corrosion resistance.
