Large-Scale Nickel Alloy & Superalloy Processing

Nickel-based superalloys exhibit outstanding resistance to oxidation, localized corrosion, and high-temperature creeping. Because of these incredible material properties, they are the backbone of the aerospace, chemical processing, nuclear power, and deep-sea marine industries.

However, nickel alloys are notoriously difficult to manufacture. They work-harden rapidly during machining, require massive cutting forces, and demand highly controlled welding environments. Openex possesses the heavy, ultra-rigid CNC machine tools and certified clean-room welding capabilities required to process large-scale Inconel, Hastelloy, and Monel assemblies without compromising the material's integrity.

Nickel Alloy Grades We Process

Inconel® (600, 625, 718)

Austenitic nickel-chromium-based superalloys. Excels in extreme temperature and pressure environments.

Common Applications:

Gas turbine blades, heat exchanger tubing, chemical processing vessels.

Hastelloy® (C-276, X)

Nickel-molybdenum alloys highly praised for surviving severe localized corrosion, reducing acids, and chlorides.

Common Applications:

Chemical reactors, pressure vessel shells, flue gas desulfurization (FGD).

Monel® (400, K-500)

Nickel-copper alloys offering excellent corrosion resistance to rapidly flowing seawater and hydrofluoric acid.

Common Applications:

Offshore marine equipment, shipbuilding components, heavy pump shafts.

Pure Nickel (200, 201)

Commercially pure wrought nickel with highly resistant properties against caustic alkalis.

Common Applications:

Synthetic fiber production equipment, food processing machinery.

Heavy CNC Machining (Combating Work-Hardening)

Nickel alloys instantly work-harden if cut improperly. We utilize extremely rigid heavy gantry mills and large horizontal boring mills equipped with low-speed, high-torque spindles. Coupled with specialized carbide tooling and high-pressure coolant delivery, we ensure clean cuts on massive superalloy components.

ASME / AWS Certified Specialized Welding

Welding nickel requires immaculate joint preparation and advanced shielding gas techniques to prevent embrittlement. Our welders utilize Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW/TIG) with highly controlled heat input and inert gas back-purging, passing rigorous radiographic (RT) and ultrasonic (UT) Non-Destructive Testing (NDT).

Thermal Stress Relief & Traceability

Given the high value of these metals, dimensional stability is paramount. We perform complete Post-Weld Heat Treatment (PWHT) in our massive in-house furnaces. Furthermore, every pound of nickel we supply comes with comprehensive Material Test Reports (MTRs) and complete traceability to meet stringent energy and military codes.
